You started your life in a stable family and you had this strong sense of how things were supposed to go. Your life has not turned out like that at all. At every turn it feels like something is going wrong. Here you are, single and looking for someone that you really care about. You’re raising your child alone; and every bad date you go on furthers the impression that you’re not good enough. This leaves you feeling anxious.
You vacillate between giving up dating altogether, trying to be the perfect parent, going to the gym, being overwhelmed, getting frustrated, to “let me just have a glass of wine” or “another piece of cake,” or “swipe some more on Tinder.” You think, “Maybe if I get the numbers up I will meet someone who really cares about me deeply and cares about my child. Besides, I can’t seem to figure out how to date, stay connected to God and be part of a church at the same time.”
Then you reach the breaking point. One more person treats you like crap or it’s a pregnancy scare; you know this is just not working. “What am I doing, I already have one kid, this is not what I wanted for my life? I don’t really feel like Jesus accepts me or forgives me!” How can I go to church when I feel this way? What are the traumas and fears that keep you from staying in relationships or reaching out?
You can start making decisions and following through in small ways to create ripples of change; to move into the freedom of personal contact, community and a revived life. Instead of numbing out in isolation, I am someone you can be your whole self with. I can help you learn to care for yourself; in naming your needs and seeking support. All parts of you are welcome, including your faith.
